Trade Policy and Legislative Affairs

The mission of the Georgia DEC Trade Policy and Legislative Affairs Committee is to support policies that increase U.S. exports by enhancing the competitiveness of American exporters.

This committee’s mission includes identifying, supporting, and advocating on legislative issues that impact US exporters — particularly small to medium-sized exporters. By doing so, it seeks to improve the U.S. global competitive position, and offer private sector input to the Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration and the U.S. Commercial Service. These issues include international trade agreements and federal government exporter assistance programs, such as US&FCS Gold Key program and U.S. Export-Import Bank’s export financing programs.

The Trade Policy and Legislative Affairs Committee also helps to identify foreign trade barriers that hinder U.S. exports, and U.S. legislative and regulatory policies that disincentivize exporting. The committee also works with Regional Legislative Coordinators who coordinate the legislative affairs in the eight regional District Export Council networks.
